Salary:

 43,393 - 60,907

Basic Function:

 To coordinate fire prevention and life safety programs for the University and its regional campuses.  Reports to Director, Environmental Health and Safety.

Additional Basic Function – if applicable:

 Provides fire and safety inspections of the university facilities.

Examples of Duties:

Duties/essential functions may include, but not be limited to, the following: 

Coordinate the development and implementation of assigned fire and life safety programs.

Supervise Fire Safety Services staff to including: making hiring and disciplinary recommendations and conducting training and performance evaluations.

Conduct fire and life safety inspections of University facilities; identify safety hazards; recommend and oversee corrective action.

Develop and implement fire and life and safety procedures for University buildings; ensure compliance with codes, policies, and standards (e.g. Ohio Fire Code, OSHA, etc.).

Coordinate with municipal fire departments to ensure proper fire safety protocols are met and adequate information is provided for emergency response procedures

Review plans for new and renovated building projects; test, review, modify, and approve new life safety systems.

Coordinate and monitor fire and life safety programs (i.e. education programs, fire drills); educate departments and administrators on safety requirements and standards.

Monitor and maintain safety equipment (e.g. stand pipe, fire pumps, hydrants, sprinkler systems, etc.).

Develop and maintain reports on fire safety compliance and activities.

Perform technical investigations and evaluations; recommend corrective action to prevent future hazards.

Perform related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

 

Associate’s degree in a relevant field; four to five years' fire safety and prevention experience.

Or

A combination of education and experience equivalent to six years' fire safety and prevention experience.

License/Certification:

Certification as Fire Safety Inspector I.

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree preferred.

Knowledge Of:

Local, state, and federal laws and regulations related to fire and life safety
Personal computer applications

Skill In:

Interpersonal communication

Ability To:

Read and understand blueprints
Manage people and projects

Working Conditions / Physical Requirements:

 Light work-Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently to move objects. Incumbent must be able to communicate with others. Incumbent may be required to travel from building to building frequently and off campus occasionally.
