Basic Function:

To assist with admission, programming and retention of international sponsored students. Perform a variety of duties and assist with special projects. Reports to the Assistant Director of International Admissions and Recruitment.

Examples of Duties:

Duties/essential functions may include, but not be limited to, the following: 

Assist in the development and implementation of a variety of special programs and services, designed to meet the unique needs of international sponsored students and international admissions.

Assist with international credential evaluation and recruitment.

Serve as host institution advisor for international sponsored students, which includes but is not limited to, ensuring that students sign up for health insurance, planning a variety of activities for students, counseling students on cultural adjustments, and finding community services, internships and host families for students.

Assist in ensuring terms of appointment are met regarding sponsorship requirements; ensure that international sponsored students have completed sponsor forms; forward completed forms to supervisor.

Review and validate student fee waivers; verify information; coordinate issuance of transcripts to sponsors; identify problems and assist in correcting information.

Assist with orientation for J-1 students; which includes coordinating and organizing events and receptions; ensure students receive certification of completion at the end of the student's program.

Provide a variety of support to the staff and supervisor which may include assistance with sponsor requests, reports, special projects, and documentation.

Perform related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in Communication, Comparative Education, Foreign Languages, Business, or a relevant field, and three months to one year of experience working with international population. Must be able to work occasional weekend and evening hours.

License/Certification:

 

Knowledge Of:

Personal computer applications (e.g. MS Office Suite including database, spreadsheet, word processing, internet, e-mail *

Skill In:

Highly developed written and interpersonal communications skills with the ability to communicate and work effectively with all components of the university and external constituents involving diverse cultures *

Ability To:

Apply analytical skills to a variety of situations
Develop and implement plans *
Work on a team as well as independently
Ability to pay attention to detail*

Preferred Qualifications – if applicable:

Project management and international higher education experience; fluency in Arabic and/or Portuguese.

Working Conditions / Physical Requirements:

Light work-Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently to move objects. Incumbent must be able to communicate with others. Incumbent will be required to travel from building to building and off campus (including international travel) frequently.
