Basic Function:
Assist in the accounting function by preparing financial statements and other financial information; reconciling and balancing Kent State University accounts and various bank accounts; assist university personnel and independent auditors, and assist with outside agencies. This is an entry level, learning accounting position normally occupied by a recent college graduate. Reports to Senior Accountant.
Additional Basic Function – if applicable:
Seeking self-motivated individual to review ACH banking transactions, create cash/refund verification reports, assist in student billing, reconcile state and local funds, as well as process journal entries for G/L accounts associated with student receivable accounting. Position includes a wide variety of tasks in a fast-paced office environment.Examples of Duties:
Duties/essential functions may include, but not be limited to, the following:
Reconcile and balance general ledger, subsidiary accounts, financial statements, etc.; prepare journal entries; make adjustments to general ledger and subsidiary accounts as necessary.
Review accounts for coding, keying, or other errors; investigate accounting errors; research transactions, resolve problems; monitor balances.
Monitor grant funds (e.g., determine if funds are available, expenditures are properly coded, expenditures are allowable under grant guidelines, etc.); prepare invoices, journal vouchers, etc.
Assist in the preparation of reports, financial statements, and other documents for federal, state, and outside agencies and for internal accounting and auditing.
Participate in assisting independent auditors (e.g., provide information, explain supporting materials and procedures, prepare and compile necessary data).
Assist in responding to inquiries from University departments concerning budget activity, proper expenditure coding, preparation of accounting documents, establishing new accounts, and accounting related activities.
Participate in recommending changes in accounting systems, policies and procedures.
May supervise students and/or provide functional guidance of support staff or other employees who work on a project or assignment on a temporary or intermittent basis.

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business or relevant field.
License/Certification:
Knowledge Of:
Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and accounting practices
Personal computer applications
Skill In:
Written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
Ability To:
Intermediate ability and knowledge of automated financial systems and personal computer applications: word processing, spreadsheet, database, internet and email

Working Conditions / Physical Requirements:
Light work-Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently to move objects. Incumbent must be able to communicate with others. Incumbent required to travel from building to building frequently and off campus occasionally.
