Job Title:

Assistant Counselor, International Admissions

Physical Location:

 Kent Campus - Kent, OH

Salary:

 $37,284 - $40,000

Basic Function:

To assist with admission, programming and retention of international students. Performs international credential evaluation of foreign transcripts. Provide advising, counseling and administrative services to international students and family members (including but not limited to academic programs, admissions, scholarships, visas, etc.). Perform a variety of duties and assist with special projects. Reports to Director of International Recruitment, Admissions and Sponsored Student Services.

Examples of Duties:

Duties/essential functions may include, but not be limited to, the following: 

Assist with the admissions process for international students, to include providing advising, counseling and administrative services to international students and family members.

Provide assistance with sponsor requests, reports, special projects, and documentation.

Apply knowledge of procedures commonly used to identify fraudulant documents and the ability to identify anomalies or inconsistenies in educational records that may be indicators of fraud or that need special explanation in the evaluation. 

Perform international credential evaluation.

Use methods and practices commonly used by credential evalutors to conduct all aspects of credential evaluation.  

Research educational systems to which the original credentials are being compared.

Use bibliographic and reference sources employed in credential evaluation including internet resources.

Provide direct supervision of student employees engaged in credential evaluation.

May assist the international admissions team as needed.

Maintain professional relationships with academic units across the university and ouside constituents.

Perform related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in communication, comparative education, foreign languages, business, or a related field, and three months of experience working with an international population. Must be able to work occasional weekend and evening hours.

License/Certification:

 

Knowledge Of:

Personal computer applications (e.g. MS Office Suite including database, spreadsheet, word processing, internet, e-mail) *

Skill In:

Written, verbal and interpersonal communication
Math, computation and data entry
Prioritization, meeting deadlines and working under pressure *

Ability To:

Apply analytical skills to a variety of situations
Develop and implement plans *
Work on a team as well as independently
To be detailed oriented and maintain accuracy and consistency of records*
Handle sensitive documents and maintain confidentiality *
Communicate and work effectively with all components of the university and external constituents involving diverse cultures *
To develop knowledge with CRM systems
Be flexible and willing to undertake and learn new tasks *

Preferred Qualifications – if applicable:

International higher education experience; fluency in a foreign language.
