Job Title:

Assistant Director, Sponsored Programs

Physical Location:

 Kent Campus - Kent, OH

Salary:

 $59,075 - $62,500

Basic Function:

Assist the Executive Director of Sponsored Programs in the development and administration of sponsored programs activities and serve as liaison between either the pre-award or post-award sponsored program activities. Reports to Executive Director, Sponsored Programs.

Examples of Duties:

Duties/essential functions may include, but not be limited to, the following: 

Supervise the administration of pre-award or post-award sponsored program activities.

Facilitate communication and problem resolution relative to pre- or post-award activities. Works with faculty, sponsored program administrators, university counsel and internal and external constituents. (e.g., federal/state agency program officers, departmental chairs, etc.) to resolve issues.

Supervise staff to include: making hiring and disciplinary recommendations and conducting performance evaluations.

Develop, revise, implement, and oversee policies and procedures including electronic proposal and award records/systems.

Develop communication and education opportunities to promote sponsored programs activities (e.g., workshops, newsletters, department web page, faculty orientation, special programs/presentations, etc.)

Develop, prepare, and submit required sponsored program reports.

Serve on department, division, and university committees.

Attend national meetings and professional conferences for training purposes.

Provide functional guidance of administrative/professional employees and/or direct supervision of support staff on an ongoing basis. May provide ongoing facilitation of consecutive projects.

Perform related duties as assigned.

Activities related to Pre-Award activities may include the following:

Supervise grant/contract proposals pre-award issues and assure compliance with university policy and government and private sponsor requirements.

Ensure grant/contract proposals are competitive and interpret sponsoring agency guidelines to faculty/staff principal investigators and to university administrators.

Activities related to Post-Award activities may include the following:

Supervise grants/contracts awarded to Kent State and assuring the administration of the grant/contract is in compliance with university policy, government and private sponsor requirements and monitor faculty/staff compliance with reporting requirements of the grant/contract.

Oversee issuance of sub-awards to university partners, ensuring that federal/state/private sponsor terms/conditions are incorporated into the sub-award partner’s contract and/or agreement and oversee the terms and conditions of sub-award’s granted to Kent State University.

Implement a monitoring system for compliance of both the university and its sub-recipients with the grant/contract reporting requirements of federal and state agencies and private sponsors.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Business, Public Administration, Educational Administration or related field. Four years' experience in progressively responsible sponsored program positions.

License/Certification:

 

Knowledge Of:

Local, state, and federal laws and regulations related to grant and contract administration
Desktop office computing applications
Customer service orientation

Skill In:

Oral and written communication

Ability To:

Make presentations
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external constituents
Independently work on multiple projects in a time-sensitive environment
