Salary:

 $16.98 - $17.75 (6 month rate)

BONUS:  Effective with the pay period which contains October 1, 2024 each employee on the active payroll shall receive a one-time lump sum payment in the amount of one thousand dollars ($1,000).

Basic Function:

Performs all tasks related to the baking process. Reports to Food Service Manager, Food Service General Manager, or other designated supervisor.

Examples of Duties:

Duties/essential functions may include, but not be limited to, the following: 

Weighs, measures, and mixes ingredients for baked goods; pans doughs and mixes; bakes breads, pastries, cookies, and other baked goods; decorates cakes and rolls.

Operates variety of kitchen equipment (e.g., pie shell press, donut cutter/die press, dough rounder, donut fryer, bakery rotary ovens, cookie press machine, dough sheeters, dough proofers, dough vats, electric hoists) to prepare and bake goods; advises on repair and replacement of equipment.

Uses technical baking skill and knowledge to ensure the finished product meets accepted standards (i.e., appropriate appearance, taste, temperature, texture, and aroma).

Portions baked goods; cuts and wraps bread; packs foodstuffs for storage or delivery to dining areas and/or refrigerated storage.

Cleans work area, utensils and equipment; maintains sanitation standards in accordance with the Ohio Department of Health.

May assist in ordering supplies needed for production.

May train and direct student employees or employees in a lower pay grade in baking procedures; may participate in training new employees.

Performs related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

A minimum of two years baking experience or successful completion of vocational education program in commercial baking.

License/Certification:

Must acquire the Ohio Department of Health's Level Two certification in Food Protection during the employee's probationary period.

Knowledge Of:

Baking terminology and techniques
Appropriate safety practices

Skill In:

Baking
Operating a variety of bakery and kitchen equipment and utensils

Ability To:

Read, write (e.g., work orders), and accurately follow oral and written instructions to include recipes and menus
Expand on recipes
Demonstrate physical dexterity and lift 50 pounds
Apply sanitation standards
Perform basic mathematics (e.g., add, subtract, multiply, and divide whole numbers, fractions and decimals, and to calculate percentages)
Maintain accurate records
Communicate with University personnel and public (e.g., to order supplies)

Working Conditions / Physical Requirements:

Bakery environment; exposed to high temperatures (e.g., hot ovens), slippery floors, sharp utensils, flour dust, cleaning solutions, and a variety of kitchen equipment; requires occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds (e.g., bags of flour and sugar), and extended periods of standing; may work varied hours and shifts to include evenings, weekends, and holidays.
