Basic Function:

Kent State University (KSU) is seeking a qualified, student-centered Non-Tenure Track (NTT) Assistant Professor or Lecturer (depending on degree qualifications) in Special Education with a primary focus on the Behavior Intervention Specialist Certificate Program (BISCP).

The BISCP at KSU maintains Verified Course Sequence (VCS) approval by the Association for Behavior Analysis International (ABAI), leading to eligibility for certification as a Board-Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA). Proactive efforts are underway to ensure future compliance with changing accreditation standards. The BISCP is part of Kent State’s Special Education program, which offers a wide variety of licensure areas to prepare professionals to meet diverse learner needs.

The role will serve a primary responsibility for teaching and academic advising. A secondary responsibility will be for operational tasks that includes direction in curriculum/program development and ongoing accreditation. The successful candidate will play a key role in revising and enhancing coursework to align with evolving directions in professional certification and best practices in the field. This position offers an opportunity to join a collaborative faculty team dedicated to preparing highly skills partitioners to meet the increasing workforce demands in ABA.

Examples of Duties:

Duties/essential functions may include, but not be limited to, the following: 

  • Teaching/Advising:
    • Develop, revise, and teach engaging in-person and online graduate and undergraduate courses (typically four per semester);
    • Ensure program quality and relevance in curriculum, teaching, and student learning outcomes;
    • Monitor student retention and achievement, providing guidance and support, as needed;
    • Maintain scheduled office hours and provide academic guidance to students;
    •  
  • Operational Support:
    • Serve as a representative of BISCP/ABA internally and externally, fostering relationships with faculty, students, and relevant stakeholders;
    • Lead curriculum development, course design, and assessment initiatives in ABA;
    • Maintain compliance with institutional policies and accrediting bodies;
    • Collaborate with special education faculty to ensure courses reflect evidence-based practices and emerging trends;
    • Participate in program-area meetings and relevant accreditation or institutional planning efforts;
    • Perform other duties as assigned by the School Director.

Minimum Qualifications:

 
  • Master’s Degree in Applied Behavior Analysis; Special Education, Psychology or a related field with a concentration in ABA;
  • Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) credential in good standing at time of employment
  • Active participation in ABA-related professional associations
  • Experience implementing ABA practices with children or adults in clinical or educational settings
  • Experience with the use of innovative technology, online instruction, or other synchronous and asynchronous distance learning modalities.

Preferred Qualifications – if applicable:

  • Doctorate in Applied Behavior Analysis; Special Education, Psychology or a related field with a concentration in ABA;
  • Board Certified Behavior Analyst-Doctoral Level (BCBA-D);
  • Minimum of three years post-certification experience in the field of ABA;
  • At least one semester experience teaching ABA courses at the undergraduate, graduate, or other adult educational settings;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of current best practices and research in ABA.
  • Demonstrated experience supervising the applied experience of those pursuing BACB certification
  • State licensure as a Behavior Analyst (if applicable)

Working Conditions / Physical Requirements:

 Light work-Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently to move objects. Incumbent must be able to communicate with others. Incumbent may be required to travel from building to building frequently and off campus occasionally.
