KENT STATE UNIVERSITY’S DEPARTMENT OF COMPUTER SCIENCE IS SEEKING APPLICANTS TO FILL A TENURE-TRACK POSITION IN THE BROAD FIELD OF ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE WITH A PARTICULAR FOCUS ON NATURAL LANGUAGE PROCESSING, LARGE LANGUAGE MODELS, LARGE FOUNDATION MODELS, EXPLAINABILITY, FAIRNESS, AND PROMPT ENGINEERING.

THE SUCCESSFUL APPLICANT WILL BE EXPECTED TO ESTABLISH A FUNDED RESEARCH PROGRAM, ENGAGE IN COLLABORATIVE RESEARCH, DIRECT THESES AND DISSERTATIONS, AND TEACH AND MENTOR STUDENTS.

EXPECTED QUALIFICATIONS INCLUDE A PH.D. IN COMPUTER SCIENCE, COMPUTER ENGINEERING, OR A RELATED FIELD. WE ENCOURAGE STRONG APPLICANTS WITH INDUSTRIAL EXPERIENCE, AS WELL AS RELATED POST-DOCTORAL TRAINEES. 

THE POSITION IS AVAILABLE AT THE ASSISTANT PROFESSOR RANK. CANDIDATES AT THE ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR LEVEL WILL BE CONSIDERED BUT WILL BE EXPECTED TO HAVE A HISTORY OF EXTRAMURAL FUNDING.

Working Conditions / Physical Requirements:

Light work-Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently to move objects. Incumbent must be able to communicate with others. Incumbent may be required to travel from building to building frequently and off campus occasionally.

OUR DEPARTMENT OFFERS THE B.S., B.A., M.S., M.A., AND PH.D. DEGREES, ALONG WITH AN M.S. IN DATA SCIENCE AND AN M.S. IN ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE. THE DEPARTMENT HAS 17 FULL TIME FACULTY AND CURRENTLY ENROLLS OVER 500 UNDERGRADUATES AND OVER 100 GRADUATE STUDENTS.

KENT STATE UNIVERSITY IS LOCATED IN NORTHEAST OHIO AND HAS A STUDENT POPULATION OF APPROXIMATELY 28,000. THE BEAUTIFUL PARK-LIKE CAMPUS IS WITHIN WALKING DISTANCE FROM DOWNTOWN KENT.
