Medical Assistant/ Podiatry Aid-CPM
Physical Location:College of Podiatry Medicine - E. 70th and Euclid Avenue, Cleveland, OH
Salary:
$17.49 per hour
Basic Function:
Perform a variety of functions that improve the educational experience of Resident Physicians and Medical Assistants at the Cleveland Foot and Ankle Clinic. Assist in the daily operations of the Cleveland Foot and Ankle Clinic.

Examples of Duties:
Duties/essential functions may include, but not be limited to, the following:
Act as a liaison between Physicians, Resident Physicians and Medical Assistants.
Create, maintain and process manual and automated patient records.
Adhere to strict, established guidelines when disseminating information or restricting access to records.
Provide Physicians and Resident Physicians with patient log(s) and daily schedule(s); monitor surgical cases.
Train Physician Residents on the process of registering patient demographics into data system(s); physician resident registration training is to occur 1st day of rotation.
Clean and sterilize surgical kits and student instruments following established procedures; clean exam room(s) and restock supply room(s); maintain inventory supplies.
Oversee diabetic shoe fitting and ordering.
Ensure surgical dressings available for post-operative patients.
Greet and assist patients, visitors, faculty, staff and students with general questions; contact patients per Physician request.
Contact 3rd parties for medical insurance and Durable Medical Equipment (DME) verification; may assist Physician Residents with medication authorization(s).
Verify accuracy and completeness of paperwork; scan paper work into patients' charts.
Ready computer systems, digital processors and other units for usage.
Assist students and others with the completion of forms; fax paperwork and orders to 3rd parties.
Participate in student group orientation.
May assist with front desk duties.
Perform related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:
Graduate of an accredited program for Medical Assistants. Medical Assistant certification/diploma. six months of experience working in a medical office. Must be willing to work on feet, ankle and related structures of the leg.
License/Certification:
Medical Assistant Certification.
Knowledge Of:
Office practices and procedures *
Standard procedures for alphanumeric filing *
Skill In:
Interpersonal communication to effectively interact with patients, visitors, faculty, students, staff and the public in person and over the telephone (e.g., to answer routine questions, to obtain verifications and authorizations)
Sterilization of medical instruments and kits *
Ability To:
Learn how to perform casting and diabetic shoe fitting
Learn how to develop film
Read, write and accurately follow oral and written instructions*
Train others how to use digital processor and film development process*
Operate a computer for word processing, data entry and retrieval *
Apply policies and procedures *
Identify and clarify discrepancies in information *
Operate various office equipment (e.g. copier, fax, scanner, digital processor) *
Typing (i/e 35 net words per minute) *

Working Conditions / Physical Requirements:
Supply room environment; exposed to sterilizing equipment, cleaning solutions, dirty linen, sharp instruments, etc., and occasional exposure to infectious material; requires moderate physical effort to include extended periods of standing and walking and frequent lifting of 50 pounds (e.g., cases of medical supplies), and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently to move objects. May work varied hours and shifts to include nights, weekends, and holidays.
Working Schedule:
Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; however, schedule may vary to meet department needs.
