Duties/essential functions may include, but not be limited to, the following: 

The coordinator will contribute to science-based decision making to improve environmental quality by working with a team of academic researchers from the Lake Erie and Aquatic Research Network (LEARN) in partnership with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) and other wetland design and management partners throughout the State of Ohio. The successful candidate will expand the capacity of the H2Ohio Wetland Monitoring Program through cultivating partnerships, producing communication products, and coordinating citizen/community science activities. The candidate will join a dynamic, supportive research group with opportunities for collaboration across disciplines and engagement with state policy makers, stakeholders, and public audiences. This position is supervised by Lauren Kinsman-Costello.

Minimum Qualifications:

Required: Bachelor’s in Science Communication, Communications, Journalism, Environmental Education, Ecology, Environmental Science, Geology, Earth Science, Chemistry, or related field.

  • Effective at working both independently and as a member of a team
  • Excellent organization skills
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license

Ability To:

Ability and motivation to cultivate a supportive and safe work environment.

Preferred Qualifications – if applicable:

Masters or Ph.D. in science communication, communications, journalism, environmental education, ecology, environmental science, geology, earth science, chemistry, or related field.


  • Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously with incremental deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate complex technical information to both expert and non-expert audiences.
  • Social and organizational skills that come from previous work experience that includes communication activities and regular interaction with the public, media, educators, scientists, and government agencies.
  • Experience with one or more common ecosystem ecology tools including field sampling and experimentation and soil, sediment, or water analyses.
  • Proficiency with basic software tools including Google applications, the Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Familiarity with StoryMaps, other ESRI Products (ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Survey 123), and other commonly used communication and graphic design software tools.
  • Familiarity with Esri products (e.g., ArcGIS Survey123 and ArcGIS Online).
  • Ability to travel for field work and project meetings.

Due to recent federal regulation changes effective 7/1/2024, eligibility for overtime exemption or non-exemption will be made when a wage rate is offered to the candidate.
