Non-traditional hours or evenings and weekends may be required.

Basic Function

Cultivate and acquire new underwriters for on-going programs, news series and special programming, pledge fund drives, and special station events; including extensive prospecting, cold-call telephone solicitation, e-mail, letter writing, in-person meetings, copy writing and production, creation and delivery of fact-based presentations and persistent follow-up. Reports to Senior Director of Sales and Marketing.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities

Independently service new and existing underwriting clients by developing their marketing campaigns through on-air spot messaging and digital platforms. Maintain frequent direct contact with clients and prospects regarding programming updates, sponsorship specials, special events, etc

Research new and lapsed clients and conduct sales “moves management” from the prospect stage, to imminent stage, and to the booked stage. Record all touchpoints in station Customer Relationship Management (CRM) and update all sales “moves management” and forecasting sales reports on a weekly basis.

Meet with new and existing clients in person to introduce WKSU, learn about client’s marketing goals, and ultimately sell station sponsorships.

Secure new business clients along with renewing and upselling existing clients per month.

Consult and negotiate with current and prospective clients for pricing, scheduling of campaigns, and copy writing.

Interact and collaborate with sales team members and other integral station staff.

Enter all sales orders into system (e.g. Allegiance Traffic Software) and work with the Traffic Department to ensure timely spot flight schedules, etc.

Write legal Federal Communications Commission (FCC) approved copy and according tof FCC requirements for messaging and best practics for public radio.

Follow up with clients on past due invoices in an effort to collect station revenue on a timely basis.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field and two to three years of sales experience. Or a combination of education and experience equivalent to six years of experience in sales.

Preferred Qualifications:
Media experience preferred.

Knowledge Of:
Sales management principles and practices *
Microsoft Office Suite and other applicable software
FCC requirements for messaging and best practice for public radio *
Skill In:
Well developed skill in written, verbal, interpersonal communication, presentation skills *
Time management and organizational skills
Ability To:
Function well within a team-oriented environment
Work flexible schedule that may include evening and weekend assignments *
Meet and exceed monthly and yearly sales goals.

Physical Requirements

Light work. Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently to move objects. Incumbent must be able to communicate with others. Incumbent may be required to travel from building to building frequently and off campus frequently.
