Basic Function:
Serve as the initial point of contact for patients, students, faculty and staff at the Cleveland Foot & Ankle Clinic. Provides general and specialized information regarding the Cleveland Foot & Ankle Clinic and/or the College of Podiatric Medicine. Performs a variety of functions to support the clinic which includes creating and maintaining manual and automated records for patients of the clinic, of a confidential or sensitive nature, serving as cashier and receptionist. Performs a variety of clerical duties. Reports to designated supervisor.

Duties/essential functions may include, but not be limited to, the following:
Serve as the receptionist for the clinic. Answer, screen and route incoming telephone calls. Take messages as necessary and communicate the information either directly or by entering the info in the electronic medical record (EMR) system.
Greet and assist patients, visitors, faculty, students and staff upon their arrival.
Schedule appointments for patients in the EMR.
Create, maintain and process manual and automated records on patients, of a confidential or sensitive nature.
Verify accuracy and completeness of paperwork required to create or modify a record; verify authenticity of supporting documents; clarify discrepancies.
Adhere to strict, established guidelines in disseminating information or restricting access to records.
Perform daily cashiering function for clinic; verify open and closing register fund; notify supervisor of fund discrepancies in writing; receive payment and co-pays on accounts; process payments and record payments; update supervisor regarding patient account problems.
Compile daily and monthly records and reports.
Serve as receptionist for clinic. Answer telephone for clinic and schedule appointments. Provide communication to patients about a variety of routine issues. Greet and assist patients, visitors, faculty, students and staff.
Clean and sterilize instruments following established procedures as needed.
Receive and log patient Orthotics; send cast and shoes to lab the next day; notify patient when orthotics are ready for pick-up.
May perform other clerical duties such as typing, filing, mail sorting, etc.
May train and direct student or temporary employees; may participate in training new employees.
Performs related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent. A minimum of one year general office experience which includes utilizing a computer for word processing or data entry/retrieval and high public contact.
License/Certification:
Knowledge Of:
Office practices and procedures
Standard procedures for alphanumeric filing *
Skill In:
Typing (i.e., 35 net words per minute) *
Interpersonal communication to effectively interact with university personnel and public in person and over the telephone (e.g., to answer routine questions, explain policies and procedures)
Ability To:
Operate a computer for word processing and/or data entry/retrieval
Apply policies and procedures
Identify and clarify discrepancies in information *
Read, write, and accurately follow oral and written instructions *
Operate various office equipment (e.g., calculator, copier machine, facsimile machine, etc.)
Perform basic mathematics (e.g., add, subtract, multiply, and divide whole numbers, fractions, and decimals, and to calculate percentages) *
Classify information according to established methods *
Exercise discretion in distributing and receiving information of a confidential and sensitive nature
