Basic Function:

The Shannon Rodgers and Jerry Silverman School of Fashion Design and Merchandising at Kent State University invites applications for a full-time tenure track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in Fashion Merchandising. This is a 9-month appointment with the possibility of summer teaching, contingent upon enrollment and availability of funds.

Examples of Duties:

Duties/essential functions may include, but not be limited to, the following: 

 

  • Teaching graduate and undergraduate course(s);
  • Establishing and maintaining a productive research program with refereed scholarship (peer-reviewed publications/ conferences), and potential for extramural grants;
  • Conducting original research on relevant fashion industry issues
  • Performing appropriate service at school, college, university, community, and national/international professional organizations commensurate with rank;

Minimum Qualifications:

 
    • Earned Terminal Degree in Fashion, Apparel and Textiles, or related fields. Terminal degree must be earned by the start date.
    • Evidence of successful teaching, preferably at the university level, with expertise in:
      • Fashion Retail Technology  
      • Merchandise Planning and Buying
      • Research Methods and Predictive Analysis
      • Product Management and Supply Chain
    • Evidence of research/creative activity relevant to fashion

  • Experience with/potential for successful grant funding
  • Evidence of industry experience
  • Ability to evolve in a highly interdisciplinary and inclusive research ecosystem
  • Ability to integrate diversity/multicultural perspective into teaching and research
  • Ability to integrate innovative technologies and pedagogical techniques in the classroom.
  • Experience with synchronous or asynchronous online teaching

Working Conditions / Physical Requirements:

 Light work-Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently to move objects. Incumbent must be able to communicate with others. Incumbent may be required to travel from building to building frequently and off campus occasionally.
