Basic Function:

Provide strategic leadership and administration for programs and services that advance undergraduate and graduate student success. Oversee initiatives that support academic excellence, student persistence, and compliance with university and state policies. Serve as the primary advocate for undergraduate and graduate education within the university and to external stakeholders. Reports to the Executive Vice President and Provost.

Examples of Duties:

Duties/essential functions may include, but not be limited to, the following: 

Develop and implement university wide strategies to enhance undergraduate and graduate student success, retention, and completion.

Provide collaborative leadership for programs housed in the University College in a manner that is consistent with the university mission and strategic plan.

Establish and maintain high standards for graduate and undergraduate programs, ensuring compliance with state and accreditation requirements.

Oversee academic advising, orientation programs, tutoring and student success initiatives for undergraduate and graduate students.

Develop campus wide graduate enrollment plans aligned with academic priorities.

Coordinate graduate student life services, including housing childcare, and belonging initiatives, in collaboration with Student Life.

Administer university policies, standards, and requirements for undergraduate and graduate study.

Develop, recommend, and implement policies affecting students in their roles as learners and employees (e.g. teaching assistantship policies).

Ensure compliance with federal and state laws and university policies related to academic programs and personnel.

Manage, allocate and monitor budgets for University College; advise on fiscal planning and resource allocation.

Supervise staff within University College; ensure compliance with HR policies and promote professional development.

Work with Research and Economic Development to encourage faculty pursuit of extramural funding supporting graduate and undergraduate education and student success programming.

Represent college to internal and external stakeholders, including state agencies and national forums.

Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Doctoral or terminal degree in a relevant field. Eight years of progressive university leadership experience, including faculty and administrative roles. Academic record sufficient for senior faculty appointment

License/Certification:

Not applicable. 

Knowledge Of:

Budgeting; strategic planning; academic programs; personal computer applications *

University structure and academic programs

Enrollment management best practices

Skill In:

Building academic programs in the relevant field

Evaluating programs and their impact on student retention

Written, verbal and interpersonal communication with the ability to communicate effectively with all components of the university and external constituents *

Supervision skills to provide support and guidance for staff *

Ability To:

Provide leadership and to direct others *

Outline clear goals and conceptual framework for programs *

Promote a collegial and constructive environment based on open communication, positive team building, and effective management of customer relationships *
