Director, Academic Advising (3 positions)

Salary:

 $67,706 - $79,822.97

Basic Function:

To direct all operational, administrative, and financial activities of a designated academic advising unit. Reports to Executive Director, University Advising.

Examples of Duties:

Duties/essential functions may include, but not be limited to, the following: 

Direct all operational and administrative activities of the advising unit.

Manage the day-to-day operations of the assigned advising unit. 

Maintain communication and coordinate with college dean designee and the Executive Director of University Advising to identify and refer students in need of additional support and to ensure timely responses to student issues, such as wait list and capacity monitoring, curriculum-related progression issues, GPS and policy exceptions, transfer evaluation, etc. 

Supervise, train, and develop advising staff in cooperation with University Advising. 

With assistance from the Executive Director, University Advising, manage caseloads of advisors in the assigned advising unit. 

Assist with the development of strategies for achieving and evaluating objectives including reviewing trends related to academic advising (e.g. retention and recruitment activities, co-curricular programs, etc.). 

Consult and make recommendations to University Advising leadership regarding operational, administrative, financial, and instructional (e.g. recommend course needs, Flashes 101 course, workshops/seminars) activities. 

Problem solve and assist in mediation of student issues. Advise students as needed. 

Oversee the maintenance of student records (e.g. change of program, exceptions, etc.) and end of term processes (e.g. graduation audits, clearance processes, and probation and dismissal, etc.). 

Provide program budget support / input to appropriate personnel. 

Assist the Executive Director, University Advising in the development of advising handbooks, policies and procedures. Serve as liaison to various constituent groups and serve on various university committees. 

Work with University Advising and other advising units as needed to advance advising objectives. 

Attend required trainings to stay current with evolving academic policies, university procedures, and best practices in academic advising to enhance professional knowledge and skills.

Minimum Qualifications:

Master’s degree in higher education or a relevant field. Six years of progressively responsible academic advising experience, student advising or related area; including three years of supervisory experience. 

License/Certification:

Not applicable. 

Knowledge Of:

Personal computer applications (i.e. MS Office Suite) with advanced proficiency in student information systems (Banner and EAB Navigate 360) * 

Budgeting and strategic planning * 

Skill In:

Written, verbal and interpersonal communication with the ability to communicate effectively with all components of the university and external constituents * 

Advising, collaborating and supervision * 

Implementing projects and assessment of program initiatives 

Ability To:

Provide leadership and to direct others; including the supervision of students (graduate & undergraduate)/projects *

Independently manage multiple projects and functions and prioritize workflow * 

Maintain a collegial and constructive environment based on open communication and positive team building *

Work with various advising and related technologies
