Job Title:

Assistant Director, Student Leadership Development (Internal KSU Employees Only) 

Physical Location:

 Kent Campus - Kent, OH

Salary:

 $52,232 - $55,000

Basic Function:

Assist in the development of a comprehensive and vibrant student leadership program which complements and supports the mission of the university and enriches the quality of student learning. Build and implement a student leadership experience which honors diversity and inclusion and enhances the development of students. Provide supervision of the Kent State University Leadership Center and its staff, programs and services. Advise Integrated and Panhellenic Greek Councils and serve as the liaison to the regional leadership and national organizations for the advised chapters. Reports to Associate Director, Student Leadership Development and Programs, Center for Student Involvement.

Examples of Duties:

Duties/essential functions may include, but not be limited to, the following: 

Develop and implement programming related to wellness, hazing prevention, sexual violence prevention, risk management, leadership and other special programming topics as needed.

Provide day to day leadership of the Kent State University Leadership Center. Develop and implement strategies across the institution to host collaborative leadership programs in the center. Manage the daily operations of the center to include space reservations.

Lead and cultivate a vibrant student leadership development program which positively contributes to retention and student success.

Ensure Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion is integral to the design, planning, and implementation of all programs and services, marketing materials, and involvement opportunities Plan a robust annual schedule of leadership workshops, conferences and awards and recognition programs that meet the needs of students.

Develop and implement an assessment plan to determine program effectiveness and student learning. Utilize assessment data to improve or modify current program offerings and strategic initiatives.

Collaborate with colleagues to develop marketing initiatives for leadership development opportunities, including social media and newsletters.

Serve as Primary Advisor to Undergraduate Student Government and funding allocation process.

Supervise graduate assistants and student employees (i.e., peer leadership consultants and student leadership consultants) to include recruiting, interviewing, selecting, training, developing, and evaluating employees.

Teach the Collegiate Leadership Course.

Plan and manage annual budget.

Assist with general activities and programs sponsored by the Center for Student Involvement and Division of Student Affairs. Review and update policies and procedures; prepare annual evaluations and reports.

Serve on university committees as needed or requested by Associate Director.

Perform related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Master’s degree in higher education, student personnel, or a relevant field.  Three years of relevant professional experience.  Must be able to work nontraditional hours, including evenings and weekends as needed.

License/Certification:

Personal computer applications (i.e. MS Office Suite)

Student leadership development theory

Budgeting

General university policies, procedures, and legal requirements

Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)

Skill In:

Written, verbal and interpersonal communications

Developing and adhering to budgets for projects

Prioritizing tasks/projects and meeting deadlines

Ability To:

Manage people and projects; work non-traditional hours

Work independently and as part of a team in a self-directed manner

Provide leadership and direction

Communicate effectively with all components of the university and external constituents

Preferred Qualifications – if applicable:

 Experience in academic research and/or administrative programming for leadership development.

Monday - Friday 8am - 5pm; Must be able to work nontraditional hours, including evenings and weekends as needed.
