International Admissions Counselor

Basic Function:
Provide advising, counseling and administrative services to international students and family members (including but not limited to academic programs, admissions, scholarships, visas, etc.). Recruit students from assigned world regions and evaluate foreign credentials for admissibility and transfer credit. Reports to the Assistant Director, International Student Recruitment and Admissions.

Duties/essential functions may include, but not be limited to, the following:
Manage recruitment and admissions within assigned domestic/international territories involving travel within U.S. and abroad.
Train recruitment representatives abroad.
Evaluate and research foreign credentials, educational systems and trends in international student mobility.
Process international applications for all programs, levels and campuses.
Maintain knowledge of assigned recruitment territory including political, cultural, academic and economic issues.
Monitor changes to world education systems; provide training to faculty and staff regarding international student recruitment and admissions.
Make admissions and degree equivalency decisions.
Represent Kent State on recruitment trips – domestic and international.
Advise/counsel prospects, students, recruiting agents, faculty, staff/administrators.
Monitor changes to visa application procedures, processing times and reciprocity tables; serve as Designated School Official and assist with the integrity of data reported to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
Develop proposals for international recruitment (e.g. market analysis / projections / budgeting).
Participate in department, division, and university special projects as required.
Serve on various departmental, divisional, and University committees.
Perform related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Public Relations, Counseling, Communications, Education, International Studies, Foreign Languages or related field; three months working in an admissions or international education office or relevant experience is required.
License/Certification:
Knowledge Of:
Personal computer applications (e.g. MS Office Suite including database, spreadsheet, word processing, internet, e-mail; ERP application - Banner preferred) *
Foreign education systems / credentials *
Basic visa and immigration concepts pertaining to international students *
Skill In:
Highly developed written and interpersonal communications skills with the ability to communicate and work effectively with all components of the university and external constituents involving diverse cultures – including group presentation and conflict resolution skills) *
Foreign language(s) / bilingual abilities
Ability To:
Apply marketing principles to produce a variety of department materials (brochures, advertising and Website initiatives *
Develop and implement plans *
Work independently and as an effective change agent *
Travel internationally as needed *
Preferred Qualifications – if applicable:
Master’s degree in a related field and an additional 3 months experience studying, living, or working abroad. Foreign language / bilingual abilities highly preferred.Assessments:
