 Associate Vice President, Student Life and Dean of Students

Salary:

 $135,000 - $150,736

Basic Function:

Provide leadership for several departments and programs in the Division of Student Life that serve an engaged and diverse student population with the primary focus of enhancing the co-curricular student experience. Assist the Senior Vice President for Student Life in the leadership and administration of the division and serve as the institution’s primary student advocate. Serve as acting Senior Vice President for Student Life in the Senior Vice President's absence. Reports to the Senior Vice President for Student Life.

Examples of Duties:

Duties/essential functions may include, but not be limited to, the following: 

Provide leadership and supervise the planning, organization, and coordination of student services in the Division of Student Life while achieving university-level goals and objectives.

Cultivate an enhanced, intentionally designed, inclusive, and engaging student experience that supports Kent State University’s vibrant campus life; regularly attend student functions and events.

Provide leadership and guidance in analysis, review, creation, and interpretation of student policies and their operational impact institutionally and beyond; recommend and participate in the development of university policies and procedures; serve on university planning and policy-making committees.

Collaborate with the Senior Vice President and the senior leadership team in leading the division, recognizing and responding to opportunities and challenges, setting strategic direction, managing resources, and developing key relationships with academic and administrative colleagues to further the mission of the goals of the university.

Establish and implement short- and long-term department goals, objectives, policies, budgets, and operating procedures aligned with university and divisional priorities.

Perform department and program assessments and evaluations to determine effectiveness; implement corrective action as required for continuous improvement.

Serve as the division’s liaison to designated areas of the university for strategic collaboration to enhance the holistic student experience (i.e. mental health, student support).

Lead efforts to educate the campus community regarding mental health issues, resources, and appropriate responses; assess current mental health services available to students on all campuses using best practices and national standards.

Facilitate the convening and coordination of the CARE Team, the university’s behavioral intervention team focused on supporting students who are considered to be a threat to themselves and/or others.

Guide the overall planning and development of student advocacy, support and well-being efforts for students, with particular emphasis on its impact on student success, satisfaction, retention, and graduation.

Lead the coordination of the division's responses to major crises and other unusual events impacting students; coordinate, schedule, and serve in an on-call duty rotation for the Office of the Senior Vice President for Student Life.

Oversee the emergency call center, responses to student deaths, mental health crises, and other student related crises.

Serve as deputy Title IX coordinator for students and liaise with the Office of Gender Equity & Title IX on all student Title IX matters.

Collaborate with academic deans and other leaders in Academic Affairs and various campus constituents to promote and enhance student success through quality programming, resources, and support efforts.

Serve as the advisor to the Senior Vice President for Student Lifeon student and community issues, such as policies and procedures, student support, advocacy, and well-being, town-gown relations, student organizations, student behavior, diversity and inclusion, and campus religious and spiritual life.

Serve as the Senior Vice President for Student Life in the Senior Vice President's absence, as requested.

Serve on department, division, and university committees; represent the division on appropriate university bodies, committees, councils, etc.

Perform human resources related duties for assigned departments, units, and areas; oversee professional development for supervised employees.

Serve on and support the division's senior leadership team; support division standing committees as designated senior team liaison.

Balance analysis, knowledge, and experience in decision making to identify and solve challenging problems; apply informed and strategic decision-making tactics to support the department/unit as well as the division's priorities.

Minimum Qualifications:

Master’s degree in higher education administration, student personnel, or relevant field. Ten or more years of progressively responsible experience in higher education administration.

Preferred Qualifications – if applicable:

Terminal degree in higher education, student personnel, or relevant field. Ten or more years of experience in designing and supporting the co-curricular experience on college campuses.

 Monday - Friday 8:00am - 5:00pm or otherwise discussed with leadership.
