Job Title:

Senior AV Support Specialist (Event Management)

Physical Location:

 Kent Campus - Kent, OH

Salary:

 $45,599 - $62,974

Basic Function:

Under general supervision, provides support for classroom technology and university events.  Reports to designated administrator.

Examples of Duties:

Duties/essential functions may include, but not be limited to, the following:

Oversee the setup and breakdown and support of AV equipment for live shows, meetings, and events

Manage the pickup and delivery of audiovisual rental equipment as required

Perform quality control on equipment and execute basic maintenance tasks, such as repairing cables and soldering connectors and communicate equipment maintenance requirements to the manager

Process service requests by identifying necessary equipment & staffing, quoting, and invoicing for event rental & service

Resolve complex incidents.
 
Manage inventory of assets and processes receiving.
 
Perform simple and moderate repairs of equipment and completes RMAs (without supervision).
 
Update and create required documentation for operations.
 
Rack and wire equipment in simple to complex spaces according to design (without supervision).
 
Configure controls for simple to moderate spaces according to specification (under supervision).
 
Configure simple to complex spaces according to specification (under supervision).
 
Configure network settings for equipment.
 
Design simple to moderate spaces (under supervision).
 
Operate as-built systems without supervision.

Setup custom systems under supervision.

Setup and design custom systems without supervision.

Work with, direct, and train student employees to resolve classroom issues.

Perform related duties as assigned.

JOB COMPETENCIES:

  • Work effectively with very limited oversight. 
  • Serve as point of escalation for lower level analysts.  
  • Identify and escalate highly unusual or very complex issues to supervisor or manager. 
  • Exercise routine and non-routine decision making on behalf of users and groups/departments.  
  • Develop long-term and life cycle technology planning. 
  • Create procedures for supported units. 
  • Work with supervisor on projects.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree and 1 year of relevant professional experience.  
 
Or an Associate’s degree and 3 years of relevant professional experience. 
 
Or comparable relevant professional experience equivalent to 5 years

License/Certification:

Not applicable. 

Knowledge Of:

Problem diagnosis, reporting and monitoring tools and processes
Troubleshooting and basic repair of AV and end user devices (displays, audio systems, control systems, PCs and similar technology)
Basic understanding of networking concepts 
Basic understanding of hybrid meeting technologies 
Moderate understanding of AV and PA Technologies
Billing and payment processes

Skill In:

Written, verbal and interpersonal communication
Troubleshooting

Ability To:

Multitask
De-escalate situations
Work independently
Translate technical details into easy to understand concepts

Working Conditions / Physical Requirements:

Exposed to electronic equipment, electricity, dirt, grease, chemicals, etc.; may be exposed to heights; requires moderate physical effort to include frequent lifting of 50 pounds (e.g. electronic equipment and supplies) and extended periods of bending, stooping, and standing; work hours may vary to include occasional evenings, weekends, and holidays; may require on- and off- campus travel.

Working Schedule:

 During the academic year, the position will have a schedule of 1pm-10pm for evening support & event coverage, and during the summertime, this schedule will shift towards a more normal 8am-5pm shift
